Well it has certainly been a while since my last post. To say the least I have been quite busy not only with Cake I Do weddings but helping my oldest daughter plan her wedding. It was such a beautiful day!
After being in the wedding industry for years I thought I knew just about everything there was to know about planning a wedding. It was a very educational experience for me. I just loved every moment of it.
I believe that the key to having the perfect wedding is not the dollar amount spent but knowing where to spend the money. A beautiful venue, good food/cake, nice flowers, a great DJ, wonderful photographer/video person an last but certainly not least an amazing coordinator.
My professional advice to anyone planning a wedding, Research your vendors, ask questions, use referrals, stay organized and enjoy the process.I would like to thank our amazing vendors for making this day perfect for our family. you were all WONDERFUL!
I have discussed both fondant and buttercream and laid out the pros and cons to each. However, if you found yourself torn between the delicious taste of buttercream cakes and the unlimited creative options that fondant allows, I have your solution! You don't need to choose one or the other, you can simply choose BOTH!

{Buttercream cake with a buttercream swirl design, fondant flowers around the sides and a fondant flower cluster topper}

When it comes to imitating figures, draping, sculpting ornamental details or creating intricate and realistic flowers, no cake decorator could live without fondant. It is wonderful for making these detailed elements along with bows, pearls, trimming, and more. Yet buttercream has its obvious perks, too! So why not take the best of both and mix and match them to create an artistic, elegant and tasty wedding cake of your own!

This combination is becoming more and more popular and the best part is that your options aren't limited! Trying to stick to only buttercream is quite a challenge, but by adding touches of fondant, you can still have the detailed creative elements you long for without having to have a fully fondant cake!

Favors quickly add up in price, and often wedding guests don't use or even keep the gift. But, you need not worry! A great alternative is to share the love of your wedding day by donating to charity. Of course, we all love wedding favors like custom candy bars and scented candles. However, making a charitable donation in lieu of traditional favors can be even more gracious and meaningful (price conscious, too!) A wedding is an indulgent expense and on your special day you are showered with love, attention, and gifts--it will do your heart good to give a little back! It will definitely impress your guests, too!

Simply choose a charity that has a special significance to you--or perhaps just one you are passionate about--and contact the foundation to assist with the donation process. You can do things such as planting a tree in the name of each guest at the wedding or purchasing Think Pink (breast cancer research) wristbands for each guest. Then you think of a way to tell everyone! Perhaps at each place setting you have a unique note describing the charity and explaining that a donation has been made on their behalf (you can even add a personal touch by telling why the organization is important to the bride & groom!) For this Baltimore wedding, I spiced up this classic with detailed patterns, a stand out monogram, and dazzling crystals--matching the brides dress! Incorporating details from the wedding dress into the cake design seems to be a growing trend. It is a great way to tie together different aspects of the wedding. The pink and fuchsia roses added a pop of color and complimented the rest of the couples color scheme as well.

Black & white cakes have a sleek and timeless look. But remember, it's always fun to put a spin on a classic by adding a modern touch and personal details! Just something to keep in mind when thinking about creating your own unique wedding cake :)Cake I Do!http://www.blogger.com/profile/06580130991999426584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2255210648630588647.post-37241014542422274512011-01-27T13:52:00.000-08:002011-01-27T14:04:07.267-08:00I'm a little teapot!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pjOly8IFED4/TUHrh1E0odI/AAAAAAAAAHY/2LiVFtzKais/s400/January%2B2011%2B266.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5566989580822159826" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pjOly8IFED4/TUHrhmPNsaI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/i4Q3Q8vFI58/s400/January%2B2011%2B246.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5566989576839213474" />
This cute little teapot is perfect for any small event. I created this Rock Star Cake using fashion elements from the GlamNation stage clothing and jewelry. Adam Lambert teamed up with Tim Foster from PennyRoyal Silver and created silver pendants that replicate his own tatoos. Proceeds from the sale of the pendants went to Donors Choose. Tim graciously allowed me to cast the pendants in sugar. If you look closely you can see the eye of the horus silver medallion and the infinity medallion on the cake and cupcakes. You will also find replicas of the bands bass guitars, Adam's hand and tatoos.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pjOly8IFED4/TTcPBBGl5cI/AAAAAAAAAHA/VJBCgi8e28M/s400/adam%2Blambert%2B8.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5563932374789907906" />
His hand is holding up a globe to symbolize the completion of his first world tour.

I would like to personally thank Tim Foster of Penny Royal Silver for allowing me to use his beautiful designs on the cake. Although it was a bit of a rainy day, the decoration inside the tent screamed sunny summertime! They used sunny yellow, hot pink, and bright orange as the colors and it looked so cheerful! Keeping their colors in mind, I dusted handmade sugar flowers in those bright colors and used them on the cake.Cake I Do!http://www.blogger.com/profile/06580130991999426584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2255210648630588647.post-60050304872158500132010-06-15T06:40:00.000-07:002010-06-15T06:53:50.048-07:00Family TraditionsHello! It has been very busy at Cake I Do. With all the beautiful weddings of June, as well as graduations, we have so much to show you!

I have made this cake twice now and it is very unique. Part of this family's tradition is to use their grandmothers cake pans, that when put all together create a large "ring". It is a very sweet tradition which allows for a very special end result. This couples theme was "Virginia", so in true Virginia style, hand made dogwood blooms were placed all around the ring. It was delivered to the very elegant Cosmos Club in D.C., and it looked beautiful!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pjOly8IFED4/TBeFoUgoFTI/AAAAAAAAADs/LiCDyIvnNxU/s320/Gigantic+Round+Wedding+Cake01.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482997999093683506" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pjOly8IFED4/TBeFoqW6hmI/AAAAAAAAAD0/FpEu5BnhLws/s320/Gigantic+Round+Wedding+Cake09.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482998004958529122" />

More to come!Cake I Do!http://www.blogger.com/profile/06580130991999426584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2255210648630588647.post-50213441215602113842010-06-08T16:56:00.000-07:002010-06-08T17:02:06.424-07:00The Golden GirlsI made these for a Golden Girls themed bridal shower for my neighbor.
